Worldliness among Christians

Worldliness Among Christians

Share

There is too much worldliness among Christians. In the world today it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between Christians and unbelievers. Too many Christians are copying the ways of the world and in the process, they look more and more like the world.

Most Christians do not want to be left out when it comes to moving along with the trends of the world.

Whatever the world out there is doing, you will find many Christians doing the same, at the same time trying to portray an image of being ‘church-like’ in what they are copying from the world. Worldlines among Christians!

Gospel music is becoming increasingly secularized – in the way the gospel musicians are singing, in their way of dressing, in the beats of the songs, in the way they dance and carry themselves. It seems like many Christians are going out into the world and copying the worldly ways erroneously thinking that doing so will attract many to Christianity; some do so to acquire recognition and human praise all the while trying to retain their Christian ways to some extent, so that their content can still be viewed as a Christian content. There is too much worldliness among Christians.

Day in day out we are bombarded with images of celebrity Christians who look so much like the world, many of who seem to have lost any sense of modesty, to the extent that we have been conditioned and deceived into thinking that it is okay to do many of the things the world is doing as long as we confess Christ.

Many people are putting forward a false image of themselves in the way they present themselves. People are painting themselves and distorting the image of their bodies to the extent that it is hard to recognize them when they have not painted themselves and in their natural states.

Men and women in the Christian circles are dressing in such a worldly way to the extent that you will only know that they are Christians because they say they are, but when you look at them, there is nothing about them that would immediately indicate that they are Christians. Worldliness among Christians!

Many churches have become places where many people are showcasing their fashion.

Christians are going out, copying the fashion and trends of the world, and bringing that to the church. There is a lot of worldliness among Christians. The behavior of many Christians is no different from that of the world. There is too much carnality among Christians today. The Bible tells us not to be conformed to the patterns of the world, but sadly, that is what is happening among too many Christians today, that is, many have conformed to the world.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2.

We do not win people to Christ by compromising, on the contrary, we are to stand firm on the Word of God and make our lives a living testimony. Let people be attracted to your Christ-likeness. Say no to worldliness among Christians.

The  Bible tells us to be set apart but very few people are truly set apart.

“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light and darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.’ ‘I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.'” 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.

Many people will say that they are Christians yet their lifestyle is like that of a person of the world. Many people say they are Christians yet they are living in habitual sin day in day out. Everywhere we turn we witness worldliness among Christians.

Too many people do not have the fear of God.

The churches today pass across sugar-coated messages that make many people remain in their sins. Too many people in the pulpits do not want to pass across the tough messages that will make people re-examine themselves and repent, maybe in an effort to maintain or even increase the size of their congregation.

There are too many people on the pulpits who are telling their congregation what those congregants want to hear with their itching ears, instead of telling them the truth of the Word of God.

There are those who choose the Bible verses that will make their congregation feel good about themselves, yet ignore other verses of the Bible completely. Because of that, many people in Christianity have remained comfortable in their sins, and whenever the truth is presented to them, they become offended because they do not want to change their ways, because the narrow path seems too uncomfortable for them. The diluted messages have contributed to the increase in worldliness among Christians.

Many people do not want to be uncomfortable, thus, they would rather keep on hearing and doing what they are doing, even if what they are being told and what they are doing is error.

The message of holiness and repentance is not common, and even many who hear it do not want to follow that path because it involves a cost that they are not willing to bear. The path to eternal life is narrow and many people think that it is too restrictive for them, so they choose the wide path because they say that they want to ‘enjoy’ life.

When the truth is presented to many people, they will tell you that you should not judge them and that no one is perfect, they will tell you that God looks at the heart in an effort to justify continuing doing what they have been doing and living the life that they have been living.

Many people think that just because they believe in Jesus Christ and go to church on Sunday, then they will make it to heaven; yet the same people go on living in sin, and they will tell you ‘judge not’ when you present to them what the Word of God says about their way of life. Many people have forgotten that God is holy and without holiness no one will see God.

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14.

It is time to be set apart. It is time to say no to worldliness among Christians. Let us stop justifying our ways that are not pleasing God and ask Him to empower us by the power of the Holy Spirit to live a life of holiness. Let us ask God to sanctify us and to reveal to us any aspect of our lives that does not please Him, and let us be willing to let go of those behaviors, attitudes, ways of dressing, adornments, that do not please God and repent of every sin in our lives.

Let us be willing to let go of living a superficial life and let go of artificiality that we try so hard to present to the world in order to be liked and accepted. May we reach a place in our lives where we recognize that Jesus Christ is truly enough.

Let us not go into the world to copy their ways, but instead, let us remain rooted in Christ Jesus and live a life pleasing to God in every way, and realize that the power of God is enough to draw people to salvation, and that we should not employ carnal ways to try and attract people into Christianity.

We should not be going into the world trying to seek acceptance; we are not of the world, and the world will not accept us when we truly live for Christ.

To be accepted by the world, one has to compromise, and that is never worth it. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts sinners to repentance, not us. Let us share the gospel and leave the rest to the Most High God.

Blessings.
