The Sin Of Pride

Share

Pride is destructive. Lucifer was cast out of heaven because of pride; he rebelled and wanted to be like God. He committed the sin of pride.

How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.” Isaiah 14:12-15.

The Bible says that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Nothing good comes out of pride; it is sin in the eyes of God.

The sin of pride is prevalent in the world today. Too many people are consumed with pride. Many have become proud because of riches, fame, beauty, power, and such. Their hearts have become puffed up and they view themselves as untouchables. Such live for themselves with no regard for God.

The Lord of hosts has purposed it, to bring to dishonor the pride of all glory, to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth. Isaiah 23:9.

God hates pride. Pride makes a person become unable to take correction and instruction in accordance with the Word of God.

Proud people think of themselves more highly than they ought to, they start thinking that they are above others. As a result, they treat other people with contempt and step on others on their way up. They seem to forget that choices have consequences and people reap what they sow.

These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19.

If you struggle with the sin of pride, pray for God to forgive you and transform you from the inside out.

Pride destroys relationships, it destroys lives. It leads to the wide destructive path that ends up in hell. God does not use proud people. A proud heart cannot worship God in truth and in spirit. The Bible says that the Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted, and they will be humbled.

Choose to humble yourself before the Lord, and He will lift you up. Humility is not weakness. Many people think being humble will make them appear weak, but that is not so. When you are humble and allow God to take over, you get to experience His power and He fights your battles.

You should not engage in carnal wars; the fruit of such is sin and destruction. Instead, surrender your life to God and obey His commandments in every area of your life; that is where true strength is found.

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. Colossians 3:12-13.

Do not glory in your wisdom, or might, or riches. Such things are temporary and will pass away.

Do not boast because of your accomplishments, your looks, your family, or any worldly thing. Instead, remain humble and always give the glory back to God. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord. Jeremiah 9:23-24.
