Flee from sin

Flee From Sin

We live in a world that exalts people-pleasing rather than living a life pleasing to God. It seems like most people are looking for attention and acceptance, and in the process, they end up compromising and doing and saying things that God has forbidden in His Word. It is a world full of cunning deceitful people who will manipulate you into sinning, yet claim that it is a ‘normal’ thing. Do not compromise; flee from sin.

Too many people have no fear of God, most people seem to live for themselves and for the gratification of their carnal desires.

It is a world where many go behind each other’s backs stabbing one another, people betray each other and plan evil things against each other. It is common that a person will approach you and start befriending you, yet in their mind, they have already planned what they want to get from you. It is a world where many people do not care about how their words and actions affect other people.

Many times, out of ignorance, we tend to keep close to us people who are negative influences and who end up leading us into living a sinful lifestyle. Most people are very convincing, they will lie to you about how everyone else is doing it and convince you to do that thing, and in the end, you end up sinning against a holy God. Be wise; flee from sin.

Many people will tell you that you do not have to ‘try to be holy’, that ‘God will understand’. People will deceive you that no one is perfect and that you do not have to try to be perfect.

Yet, the Bible says, “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew 5:48.

There are people, even among those who say that they are Christians, who will tell you that you have to fornicate because ‘no man will wait for you’, others will tell you that you have to dress in a worldly and provocative way if you want men to be attracted to you, they will give you a list of dos and don’ts that you have to adhere to if you want a certain outcome in your life.

It is a fallen world whereby the blind are busy leading the blind astray. Refuse to follow the blind. Flee from sin.

Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind, both will fall into a ditch. Matthew 15:14.

Many people like living as if their life is a community or public affair; they want to associate with certain people, put out most details of their life on social media, want to be friends with certain people, and do what those people are doing in order to try and fit in. Many people do not know what it means to have a sense of individuality because most of the time they are busy going out with and entertaining their friends – most of whom are not real friends.

Many people are uncomfortable with silence, they usually want to be among the crowd. Too many people end up doing and saying things that are sinful just because they want to fit in, be validated, be liked, and be admired, and be seen as if they have everything under control, and to be popular and gain human praise.

Many people are playing around with their souls, they seem to have forgotten that the human soul is priceless, that it took the sinless Son of God to redeem us from eternal damnation. Many people are playing around in the devil’s territory, they forget that the devil is a deceiver and his aim is to destroy humanity. Many people are playing around with sin, they forget that sin leads to death. Choose to flee from sin.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:14-15.

It seems like many people have grown comfortable in this world, they think that they have everything figured out.

Many people have forgotten that this world is not their home, that we are just passers-by, and that our real home is heaven with God, our Creator. Many people have been deceived and enticed by temporary things of this world and have put off the One who should be the most important Person in their life, Jesus Christ.

It seems like many people no longer put much care into where they will spend their eternity. Too many are not preparing for eternity, they are consumed with the cares and vanities of this world. Many people no longer seek God, many do not pursue holiness, they forget that without holiness no one shall see God.

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears. Hebrews 12:14-17.

Let us not get comfortable in this temporary world, let us not trade eternal life with temporary worldly things because if we do, then we will come to regret it. Let us always fix our eyes on eternity with Christ Jesus, so that everything we do and say is geared towards that eternal life in heaven with our Lord and Savior. Let us not get distracted; this world is not our home.

It is time that we stop entertaining people and situations that make us fall into sin. It is time that we start valuing our relationship with God above all else, and if anybody or anything in our lives is causing us to stumble and is pulling us away from God, then we better run for our lives! Flee from sin. If a person is pressuring you to indulge in sin, run for your life! Flee from sin. Nothing in this world is worth losing eternal life.

Do not remain in a compromising situation, flee as fast as you can and explain later if need be. Value and seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness above all else in this world. Jesus gave us an example of how we are to deal with situations that lead us to sin.

If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Matthew 5:29-30.

Do not sit and entertain sin, do what you have to do to avoid falling into that trap. Flee from sin.

Do not sit there naively smiling at a person who is telling you to fornicate with them, stop entertaining that person who wants you to commit adultery with them, stop trying to be ‘nice’ to that person who is full-blown lusting after you and is feeding your ears and mind with perverse things, stop attempting trying not to ‘hurt the feelings’ of that person who is busy trying to gossip and slander others and spread hate.

Stop entertaining relationships with unbelievers, stop thinking that you can change a person who is hostile towards things of God, stop trying to be ‘nice’ to someone who is abusing you and disrespecting you and taking advantage of you, stop pursuing marriage with that person who is obviously not good for you and who you know is not God’s will for you; stop trying to please the world, stop compromising! Flee from sin.

We are to love one another but let us not forget that love has to be tough at times and at other times it involves saying no. Love does not mean condoning sin. Do not put yourself in or remain in a compromising situation. Flee from sin.

Be prepared to lose friends, be prepared to walk alone if it comes to that, be prepared to forgo that thing that you have been desiring if need be; if getting that thing or that person involves sinning, then it is really not worth it. It is better to live a single life, or not to have that job, or not move to that place, or be without friends, or to be seen as the weird one, or not to go to that school, or not to live that life we had imagined in our minds; it is better not to have all these than to lose eternal life.

Do not live a life of compromise. Standing your ground and refusing to compromise on the Word of God will cost you, but in the end, it is worth it. Be wise, know what the will of God is, and live in accordance with His Word, no matter the cost. Do not conform to the patterns of this world, the world is deceived.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2.

Only in God do we know the truth, and that truth does indeed set us free. To God be all the glory.

Blessings.
