The Mind – Take Your Thoughts Captive

From the mind originates our thoughts. Whatever we say or do originates from the mind. That shows how much influence the mind has over our lives. The mind is powerful, and that is why the enemy fights for control over our minds. The enemy knows that if he takes our minds captive, that equals to taking our lives captive. The actions we do, the words we say, and our attitudes are not automatic, they originate from the mind, whether we are aware of it or not. It all starts with a thought. This is one of the reasons why we should be aware of our thought life.

We should realize that we do not operate on an automatic basis. A person not aware of their mind and their thought life is prime target for the enemy; the enemy comes and introduces thoughts that do not align with the Word of God, he introduces lies and confusion. If we are not aware of the tricks of the enemy, we will easily fall prey to his schemes. The devil is working day and night seeking for souls to devour. The enemy only comes to kill, steal, and destroy.

We cannot afford to be ignorant, we cannot afford to allow every thought in our mind to influence our behavior, we cannot afford to be controlled by ungodly thoughts.

The Bible tells us that the human heart is evil. We have to know the truth and that truth is what sets us free. The thing is, our minds are a battleground. The enemy is fighting to take control of our minds, he does whatever he can to influence our minds to go against God’s will. We have to know that the enemy is at work and that we are in spiritual battles against dark evil forces. We cannot sit back and relax and expect to win battles that are carefully crafted by a cunning and evil creature.

Satan knows the Bible and he will twist the Word in order to accomplish his evil motives, he will present to us near truths, half truths, and outright lies. When a person does not know the schemes of the enemy, there is little resistance for the enemy and such a person is easily deceived and that usually leads to their downfall.

We should never bargain with the enemy, we should never entertain thoughts in our minds that go against the Word of God. This means that we have to know what the Word of God says, we have to know the truth for ourselves. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit.

We cannot fight against lies if we do not know what the truth is. We cannot guard our hearts if we do not know that the enemy is after our minds.

We have to know what we are fighting against, we have to know how the enemy works, we have to put on the full armor of God. The Bible tells us not to be conformed to the patterns of this world but instead to be transformed by the renewal of our minds. Only when our minds are renewed by the Word of God can we be able to test and approve what God’s good pleasing and perfect will is.

We have to make up our minds! We have to say NO MORE to the enemy. We have to change our mindset and learn to focus on thinking thoughts that are pleasing to God and that are in accordance with His will.

Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Philippians 4:8.

We should align our thoughts with God’s Word and His will. Whatever we feed our minds on is what we produce. We are told that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We cannot think bad thoughts and expect to produce good deeds or good words, whatever we think is what we produce through our words, actions, and attitudes.

Guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.

When we accept Christ, we are made a new creation, the old is gone and we embrace the new. Our new life in Christ should be different from the life that we lived in the world, our thought life in Christ should be different from the thoughts we thought of when we were in the world. We are to demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

A mind made up to obey God requires a lot of discipline. The Holy Spirit empowers us to live a disciplined life full of self-control. We have to be intentional about closing any loopholes in our lives that the enemy can use as a doorway into our lives. We have to change what we listen to, change what we watch, we have to be on the watch about anything and everyone we open our lives to. We have to be fully surrendered to God in every area of our lives.

We are to set our minds on things of God and not on carnal worldly things. We have to make up our minds to live for God.

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life now is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:2-5.
