The Bible tells us that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. A double mind is an unstable mind, it is a deceived mind, it is an open doorway to the enemy, it does not please God. When we indulge in things of the world and then on Sunday go to church expecting God to approve our behavior, we deceive ourselves.
We cannot be of God and of the world, we have to choose one. Will we serve God or will we serve the enemy?
The Bible tells us to love God with all our mind, heart, and soul. God looks at the heart and He knows those who are fully dedicated to Him, He knows those who love Him. We can deceive people with external appearances but we cannot deceive God. People can be deceived by what we say, how we dress, they can be deceived by religiousness. Religiosity means nothing if our hearts are not right with God.
If our minds are divided between the world and serving God, then in the end our religiousness will amount to nothing. If we do things and speak like the world does, gossip like the world does, sin on a continuous basis like the world does, ignore the conviction of the Holy Spirit, then what is the difference between us and the world?
Going to church will not save us, good deeds will not save us, external appearances will not save us, our achievements will not save us; only Jesus saves. God does not want a double-minded man. We have to choose whom we will serve.
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.” Revelations 3:15-16.
God is holy and He tells us to be holy as He is holy. We have to choose whom we shall serve. We are either of God or we are not, it is as simple as that. God cannot be mocked, we reap what we sow. We cannot cheat God, He sees the heart and He knows everything. He will not be deceived by a show of religiosity.
We live in a world where there is a lot of hypocrisy. People live as they want during the week then on Sunday make appearances in church. People will indulge in all types of sin when there is no one watching or if they think that no one will find out. We live in a world where people do or say one thing but their heart is somewhere else.
We live in a world where its prince is Satan and he is working day and night looking for souls to devour. We cannot afford to be ignorant of the enemy’s tactics, he is cunning and manipulative and the father of all lies. The enemy is not our friend, we cannot afford to entertain him, we cannot afford to give him legal rights into our lives, we have to close all loopholes.
We close loopholes the enemy uses to access our lives by submitting to God.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7.
Submitting to God means total surrender to God. It means being sold out to Christ. It means having the mind of Christ, and having the mind of Christ involves complete surrender to God’s will. We let go of the need to be in control, we die to the fleshly sinful nature, we repent and turn away from sin and accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.
We die to self. We let go and let God take over. We seek God’s will in every area of our lives, we accept God as our Father, we make Jesus our best friend, we accept the Holy Spirit as our Teacher of Truth and become willing to follow His convictions. We surrender. We are not like a double-minded man. We become of one mind, we acquire the mind of Christ.
But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you live now? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15.
Blessings.
