Godly Sorrow Produces Repentance Leading To Salvation

Share

Grief is a very powerful emotion. Those who have experienced grief know how deep it goes. Grief is usually brought by painful life events or unfulfilled heart desires. Grief is a period of mourning, brought about by loss of any type, not limited to the loss of a loved one. It is a deep sense of loss, a cry that originates from the heart. It is a bleeding heart, a broken heart, shattered dreams, a broken spirit, a cry so deep that it is almost tangible. The Bible says that godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Loss destabilizes what a person was used to, it is a deviation from what was considered normal. It occurs when things do not turn out as we expected, it occurs when we face unexpected or even expected painful life-altering events. It occurs when our hopes were high for a certain thing or a certain place or a certain person, but then such hopes come crushing down. Crushed hopes, broken dreams, indescribable deep sense of loss, events and things and people that cause such indescribable heartaches.

We mourn what did not happen, we mourn what happened that caused us great pain, we go through cycles of regret and deep sorrow, of wishing we had done things better, of wishing we had not done certain things, of wishing we had not opened up our lives to certain people.

We are faced with uncertainties that we have to go through because what we knew is gone. Uncertain is uncomfortable. We do not want to face the uncomfortable. Because of that, most people would rather remain in the safe comfort zone of what they know even if that may not be good for them. Only godly sorrow produces repentance; the sorrow of the world produces death.

In life we go through different seasons, we come across different people, we go to and through different places. We usually plan our lives and think that by such and such a time we want to have achieved a certain thing. In our minds, we have everything planned out and we are usually determined to achieve that which we have purposed to achieve in our lives. Because of that, when we come across something or someone that throws us off-course, we are left in confusion.

Determined to make things work as we had imagined, we try to do everything within our power to make things right again. When things do not work out as we had expected, most people end up growing bitter and some eventually give up. Godly sorrow works repentance that leads to salvation, but worldly sorrow brings about death.

With time we come to realize that we live in a fallen world and that human beings have a fallen nature.

We come to realize that most people put on a show and show the world what the world wants to see. We realize that there are many people who live a lie. We realize that just because a person goes to church and holds a leadership position does not mean that they are saved. We come to realize that most people speak lies, their language is lies.

We come to realize that many people are full of lust and they will lie their way into your life just to fulfill their lusts. We realize that we should not put our lives in the hands of human beings because human beings are fallen, and without God human beings are incapable of anything good. There are many people who have a form of godliness but deny the power of God through their words and actions.

We live in a world full of people who are being used by the devil to accomplish his evil plans. This world has master manipulators, cunning and crafty people who will use you as a practice ground for their evil hearts’ desires.

Do not be used by any person as a means to fulfill their ungodly desires.

Beware of ungodly people who tell you that they are nice people, never forget that human beings are incapable of anything good by themselves, any goodness in us is because of God. When things do not work out with such an ungodly person, then you will see evil manifest in them in full! Do not yoke your life with unbelievers. Beware so that you do not fall prey to predatory wolves. Submit yourself to the will of God and let go of the ideas you had in your mind about how life should be. Godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation.

Many people will try and place all the blame on you when things go wrong. They will burden your life with shame, guilt, condemnation and regrets.

Such ungodly people will turn everything against you. They will use everything you say and do and turn it around and use it to condemn you. They will do everything within their power to try and bring you down. They will lie and manipulate and try to shame you and give false witnesses in an effort to demoralize you and bring you down and in an effort to protect the false image they project to other people. The more you apologize the more they burden you with regrets and the more they find more things to accuse you of. Never confuse love with abuse.

Do not try to protect someone who is abusing you, abuse thrives in secrecy and if such people sense that you will continue to accept their abuse and not report it to anyone then they will continue abusing you. The abuse will only get worse.

Satan has no honor and so are his agents, people being used by the devil have no honor at all. Do not think that your trying harder will change them, if they are ungodly then there is no goodness in them. Their language towards you will get even viler. Do not try to protect an ungodly abusive person, allow them to experience the consequences of their actions. Let the truth prevail. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

God is love, and yet, He is also just. He will judge every person in justice and in truth. It is a hard concept for many to reconcile a loving God with a God of wrath. Yet, that is who God is; He is good and loving and yet just. Sinners who die in their sins, unrepentant, without accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will experience the wrath of God for eternity in the lake of fire.

The Bible tells us that godly sorrow produces repentance that leads to salvation but worldly sorrow leads to death. So many people are burdened with guilt that they lose hope. Never allow the enemy to burden you with shame, guilt, and condemnation such that you live a life full of regrets. Do not live a life of regrets. Regret is a burden on your shoulders that you should not be carrying.

Accept the gift of salvation. Allow Jesus Christ to lift your burden away. Mourn over your sins and ask God to forgive you. Acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of God. By grace we are saved, through faith, in Christ Jesus alone. We are not saved through our works lest any man should boast, salvation is a gift from God. Focus on the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. The Bible tells us that there is no condemnation for those of us in Christ Jesus.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds in things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can it be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:1-11.
