Love Is Patient

Love is patient, long-suffering, it does not force itself on the other person, it does not try to rush past but goes through the process and embraces the journey. Patience allows the other person to be the best they can be and also involves waiting on the Lord. It involves not rushing the other person into something they are not comfortable with.

Patience involves giving the other person time, space, praying for them, believing in God for them, not forcing our will on the other person, and not forcing the other person to do or say anything against their will. It involves respecting the differences between us as everyone is different and because of that, we should not expect everyone to see things as we see them.

Patience involves stepping back and allowing God to work in our lives and in the life of the other person.

Patience is part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Things and people in this life will not always work out the way we would have wanted or expected. Patience allows us to hold back and not try to force our way. It involves knowing and respecting the boundaries between us, it involves respecting the opinion of the other person, it involves giving time to the other person to seek God before making a decision and not rushing them through, it involves having the ability to wait. Patience is defined as, “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.”

God is love and it is in Him that we learn what love really is. One of the attributes of God is that He is long-suffering.

“Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in loving-kindness and truth.'” Exodus 34:6.

God does not wish for any one of us to perish, He waits patiently for us to change our ways and come back to Him.

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? Romans 2:4.

God wants a true change in us from our hearts, and because of that, He never forces His will on us, He lets us choose to follow Him. When we do repent and go back to Him, He welcomes us with open arms. The Lord longs to be gracious to us and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on us, for He is a God of justice. How blessed are those who long for Him! We should never take God’s patience for granted.

When we love someone then we are to be patient with them. Love is patient. The heart condition matters, not just words from our lips. We cannot claim to love someone yet we are impatient with them; our actions would prove us wrong. It is the same with our relationship with God, when we say that we love God, then our actions should align.

They profess to know God, but they deny Him by their actions. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good deed. Titus 1:16.

The Bible tells us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. You shall know them by their fruits.

Patience is a virtue. May we always wait on the Lord.

For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it lingers, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. Habakkuk 2:3.
