There are many people who will never do something for you or give you something unless they will benefit in return. Very few people will offer something to another person out of pure generosity. It is very rare to find someone who just wants to bless another person without expecting compensation of some kind or a human reward. In all you do, remember that God is your reward.
We live in a world whereby too many people do not have good motives. It reaches a point whereby when someone appears nice to you, then you may start questioning why they are overly friendly; this is because the world is very self-centered, and not many people can be trusted.
Many people approach other people with hidden motives that they hide behind their smiles, words, or actions.
It is a world of ‘give this, in return for that’. Many people usually know exactly what they want when they approach somebody else. They usually approach with well-calculated moves, and a person will present themselves in such a way that the other person lowers their guard down and eventually gives them what they wanted in return.
The Bible says that the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. From the hearts of people is where things arise. Many people will not show you their real selves, they will present you with an image of themselves that is likable because they know that if they revealed their real selves then most likely you would not want anything to do with them.
Many people will try to make a good impression on you, yet all that is an act, that is most likely not who they really are.
It takes time to know who a person really is, first impressions can be very deceiving. There are those who have mastered the art of making good first impressions in an effort to be acceptable in the eyes of the other person. They will try to say and do all the right things in an effort to please you and usually, to manipulate you into creating a good image of them in your mind, yet that is usually a false image.
To know a person, you have to watch for the fruits of their lives. Be patient, watchful, and prayerful, and eventually, their real selves will emerge. Many people end up being deceived because they are too impatient to wait until the person proves who they really are – not by the acts they try to portray in order to impress you – but the person they actually are. If their fruit is of the flesh, you better believe it, no matter how convincing their words or actions were initially to the contrary.
See people for who they are, and not for who you want them to be or who they try to present themselves as.
Watch out for people who always expect something from you when they do something for you. Usually, such people are very self-centered, though they may try to portray an image of being generous. Their giving to you is conditional and usually they expect you to pay them back in one way or another, and usually, the cost to pay far exceeds whatever they may have offered to you.
Beware of anyone who, after they have offered you something, somehow automatically expects something from you in return; it is usually very subtle and they will not say it in black and white. However, their actions will show you that whatever ‘favor’ they may have offered you was actually not free in their minds. Beware of those who you surround yourself with, they may be wolves covered with sheep’s clothing.
Take caution that you do not fall prey to ravenous wolves masquerading as ‘nice’ people.
Let God be your reward. When you do something for someone, do it as unto the Lord. Remember that we are passers-by in this world and our true reward will be in heaven. Never do anything out of selfish ambitions. Always remember that God is your reward.
Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Philippians 2:3-4.
Do not do things for others or offer them something just so that you can get something in return from them, whether directly or indirectly. Do not be self-centered in your interactions with others; do not allow yourself to become a person whose every move is calculated for your own benefit.
Do not become a person who just uses people for your own benefit.
When you help that needy person, do it out of love, let that be your service to God. When you do something good for another person, do it out of love and not because you are expecting something from them, and even when you expect to be paid in the course of your day-to-day job or work, do what you do to the best of your abilities. God is your reward.
As followers of Christ, our reward is from God, He will reward us for every good work we do on this earth. We need to change our mindsets and stop thinking like people of the world. The world is full of manipulative people who will even prey on the vulnerable just to achieve their self-centered life goals.
Many people have gotten rich out of corruption and misusing and abusing other people. There are people who will not even look at you twice if they realize that you have nothing to offer them, they will not help you even when you are in need because to them you are of no benefit. Many people will only help those who can help them in return, whether the help will come immediately or if they perceive that you can be of future benefit to them.
Many people will bypass a poor elderly person who asks for help and yet will go and waste their money by indulging in vain pleasures of this world. Let us be wise and invest our all in the service of God. When you serve one of the least ones, you are serving God. Persevere even when there is no earthly reward, God will reward you in due time. God is your reward.
“When the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: and before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: and He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry, and ye gave Me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took Me in: naked, and ye clothed Me: I was sick, and ye visited Me: I was in prison, and ye came unto Me. Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we Thee hungry, and fed Thee? Or thirsty, and gave Thee drink? When saw we Thee a stranger, and took Thee in? Or naked, and clothed Thee? Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto Thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.” Matthew 25:31-40.
